Each school year, Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute hosts New Friends, a unique program bringing together people living with memory loss and UW–Madison students interested in a career in healthcare. This year’s session will run from October 2022 to April 2023, with in-person and virtual meetings. New Friends gives people living with memory impairment an opportunity to express their hopes regarding their health care and to participate in the training of future health care providers. A student who participated in last year’s program told us, “New Friends changed the way I understand people living with MCI. I now interact with a sense of grace, empathy and respect that I didn’t bestow before. Understanding their struggles will allow me to better accommodate and care for people with MCI as a future nurse.” Read more about the program on the New Friends webpage.
